Our therapists are knowledgeable and experienced with the evaluation and treatment of pediatric and adult speech and language delays and disorders, including but not limited to:

  • Receptive and Expressive Language Delays and Disorders
    A Receptive language delay/disorder is when an individual has difficulty comprehending what others are saying, such as in conversation or when listening to verbal directions. An Expressive language delay/disorder is when an individual has difficulty expressing their thoughts, feelings or ideas.
  • Articulation and Phonological Processing Disorders
    An Articulation and/or Phonological Processing Disorder is when speech sounds are produced in error, making it difficult for others to understand an individual’s speech.
  • Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)
    Childhood Apraxia of Speech is a motor speech disorder resulting in difficulty with planning and consistently producing sequences of speech sounds, leading to reduced intelligibility.

  • Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
    Autism Spectrum Disorder is a type of developmental disorder that is characterized by difficulty/delays with social interaction, language and cognitive skills and overall communication. Skills such as eye contact, response to name and verbal expression may not be present. Repetitive behaviors, such as rocking and hand flapping, are commonly associated with this disorder.
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication
    Augmentative and Alternative Communication is a communication approach that utilizes multiple aided tools, including high technology items (ipads and voice output devices) and low technology items (picture exchange and communication boards) to enhance access to language for non-verbal or limited verbal communicators. AAC includes unaided tools such as sign language and gestural information. Populations utilizing AAC may include Autism Spectrum, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury, Stoke and Developmental Disabilities.
  • Pragmatic/Social Language Disorders
    A Pragmatic Language Disorder is when an individual has difficulty comprehending and utilizing verbal and non-verbal (body language, facial expressions) forms of language for social purposes. Some difficulties may include: greeting others appropriately, initiating and engaging in conversation, turn-taking, and understanding implied meaning of messages.
  • Neurological Conditions resulting in Aphasia and Cognitive Deficits
    Aphasia is a neurological language disorder that impairs an individual’s ability to use and/or understand words. Impairments may include difficulties in the ability to speak, understand speech, read, and/or write.

  • Auditory Processing Disorders
    An Auditory Processing Disorder effects an individual’s ability to attend to and interpret auditory information. They may appear to be a poor listener, have difficulty with following directions and require more time to process information.
  • Fluency/Stuttering
    Stuttering is a speech disorder that disrupts the normal flow of speech due to breakdowns, such as repetitions of sounds, words or prolongation of sounds. Other behaviors, such as eye blinking or lip tremors, may be present.
  • Voice Disorders
    A voice disorder is a result of poor vocal fold vibration, which is needed to produce sounds. Voice disorders can be due to vocal abuse, such as excessive yelling, or from growths on the vocal folds, such as nodules. Breathiness, hoarseness, inappropriate volume and overall vocal strain are common characteristics of a voice disorder.

Treatment approaches are Evidenced Based and are tailored to meet the specific needs of our client’s.

Our Services



Speech-Language Screenings

Consists of a short screening of speech and language skills to determine if further assessment is warranted. Includes a detailed discussion of findings. (Approximately 30 minutes)

Comprehensive Speech-Language
Evaluations

Consist of a comprehensive evaluation, using a combination of standard and non-standardized measures, to determine current level of functioning and the need for therapeutic intervention. Includes consultation of evaluation results and a full written report. (Approximately 60-90 minutes for evaluation and discussion)

Individual Speech-Language
Therapy Sessions

Consists of an individual 30 or 60-minute session to target the individual needs of the client. Sessions include direct treatment and caregiver discussion at completion of session to provide strategies for carryover.

Social Skills Groups

Consists of group therapy (60 minutes with approximately 3-5 participants) for children within the same age and skill levels. Specific social skills are taught using a Social Thinking Curriculum and practiced within fun, engaging activities to promote functional communication, appropriate social behaviors and friendship. Session includes group treatment, discussion with caregivers and take home activities to ensure carryover.

About Our Founder

Speak Easy Solutions is owned and operated by Jennifer Tesman, M.S. CCC-SLP, who is a certified speech-language pathologist through the American Speech-Language Association (ASHA) and is licensed in the state of New Jersey. She also maintains certification by the New Jersey Department of Education as a Speech-Language Specialist. Jennifer received her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts and her Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. Jennifer’s experience working within various treatment settings, including Early Intervention (birth-3), school aged children in a private setting and adults in long term care facilities, has provided her with a well-rounded background equipped to evaluate and treat a wide range of communication disorders across the lifespan.

Jennifer also has experience in mentoring graduate clinicians from various NJ and NY graduate programs, in her position as a Clinical Supervisor, for the past 5 years. She has special training in PROMT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) and has attended many courses in the treatment of early language development, including her favorite, Teach me to Talk. Taking from her clinical background, Jennifer believes in utilizing a family and caregiver approach to treatment. She not only provides effective ways to promote functional communication, but prides herself in her ability to teach, counsel and empower clients and their families to use the necessary tools to support speech and language development outside of the treatment room.
